トム:やあ、美希。

Miki:Fine, thanks.
美希:元気だよ、ありがとう。
Tom:I hear you like hiking.
トム:ハイキングが好きなんだってね。
Is that true?
ほんとう?
Miki:Yes.
美希:うん。
I often went hiking when I was in Japan.
日本にいたときは、よくハイキングに行ったよ。
Tom:I'm glad to hear that.
トム:それを聞いてうれしいよ。
Why don't we go hiking next Saturday?
今度の土曜日にハイキングに行かない?
My uncle Eric will guide us.
おじのエリックが案内してくれるよ。
Miki:That sounds wonderful.
美希:それはすてきね。
Where will we meet?
どこで会う?
Tom:Can you come to my house at six in the morning?
トム:朝6時にぼくの家に来られる?
Miki:Sure.
美希:もちろん。
I hope it'll be clear on that day.
その日が晴れるといいな。
Part 2 バンフ国立公園に来た!
Miki:What a breathtaking place!
美希:なんて息をのむような場所なの!
I'm so excited to be here.
ここに来られてとてもわくわくするわ。
Eric:Wait.
エリック:待って。
First of all, let's check the hiking rules.
まず最初に、ハイキングのルールを確認しよう。
Miki:“Take only pictures, leave only footprints.”
美希:「写真だけを撮り、足あとだけを残す」。
Right?
でしょ?
Eric:Yes.
エリック:そうだよ。
We can take pictures, but we must not take anything from the forest.
写真は撮ってもいいけれど、森から何かを持ち去ってはいけない。
Tom:And we must bring our garbage back home.
トム:それに、ごみは家に持ち帰らなければならない。
Miki:Yeah.
美希:そうね。
We must protect nature.
自然を守らなければね。
Eric:Now, let's go.
エリック:さあ、行こう。

Part 3 木が倒されている!
Miki:How terrible!
美希:なんてひどいの!
Who cut down this tree?
だれがこの木を切り倒したの?
Tom:You don't have to worry.
トム:心配しなくていいよ。
I think a beaver did it.
ビーバーがやったんだと思う。
Miki:You know a lot about beavers?
美希:ビーバーにくわしいのね?
Tom:Yes.
トム:うん。
They're one of Canada's national animals.
ビーバーはカナダの国獣の一つなんだ。
Miki:Are they?
美希:そうなの?
They build dams and lodges, right?
ダムや巣を作るんでしょ?
Tom:Exactly.
トム:そのとおり。
They're great engineers.
彼らはすぐれた技術者なんだ。
Miki:Do you think we'll see any beavers today?
美希:今日はビーバーに会えると思う?
Tom:I don't think so.
トム:会えないと思うな。
They sleep in their lodges during the day.
彼らは昼間は巣の中で眠っているんだ。
Miki:Then we have to be quiet.
美希:じゃあ、静かにしなきゃね。
